Renown Young Americans Bring Their Performing Arts Workshop & Show to Gloucester Township Next Week

The Young Americans "Turn Up the Music" workshop & show offers a unique opportunity for local students, November 6-8, presented by Mainstage

The countdown is on; less than a week until the Young Americans come to south Jersey for their “Turn Up the Music” workshop and show. Hundreds of third through 12th graders have the opportunity to participate in this musical outreach program while they are off for the NJ Teacher’s Convention. On November 6-7 at Timber Creek High School in Sicklerville, student participants will work side-by-side the Young Americans learning voice, dance and performance techniques as they prepare for a show they’ll perform on Saturday, November 8. The show takes place at Camden County College’s Dennis Flyer. This spectacular two-hour show, featuring music and dances from Broadway Musicals, One Direction, Phillip Phillips, Disney and more, is performed at 4 and 7 p.m.

Alyssa Sileo participated in the 2011 Young Americans workshop as a sixth grader. She is excited that her three-year wait for another opportunity is over.

“What I loved most about the Young Americans is how enjoyable the show and people are. I’ve made friends that I still keep in touch with today! The Young Americans are funny, sweet, and observant of everyone’s unique talents,” said Sileo. “I’ll never forget what happened on the stage during one of the final rehearsals before the show, as we learned the finale Lion King medley. A leader of the Young Americans asked the students, ‘Why do you love performing?’ Many people shared their reasons and poured out their heart about why they feel the stage is a home. I remember internalizing at that very moment that listening and telling these stories with people are my passions. Here’s to some more amazing memories!”

The Young Americans, especially Mainstage alumni Ana Cullin and Josh Kurtz, are also looking forward to the workshop. Ana Cullin, Mainstage alumni, said in a recent Facebook post, “With every town I get more excited for our visit to NJ…I have taken the workshop and the Young Americans have changed my life in such a positive life changing way that I am now a Young American.”

There’s still time to register for this incredible opportunity. For registration and more information, visit www.mainstage.org.
