Rowan University Will Offer NJ's First Veterinary Medicine Degree

Rowan University plans to welcome the inaugural class of students seeking their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 2025.

SEWELL, NJ — Rowan University will be the first veterinary medicine school in New Jersey, with plans to welcome the inaugural class of students in 2025.

The University announced Wednesday that the School of Veterinary Medicine will be housed in Sewell and offer the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree. Other degrees and training programs, such as graduate programs, internships, and residency programs are in development, the university said.

Rowan University's program would be the 34th veterinary medicine school in the United States, and the sixth on the east coast.

In November, state legislators approved $75 million in funding to build the school facilities. Designs are in progress for a 100,000-square-foot veterinary medical complex, which will include offices, classrooms, laboratories, and a teaching hospital.

Dr. Matthew C. Edson, founder and owner of Rancocas Veterinary Associates, will be the dean of the school.

The school is seeking accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association Council on Education, which is necessary for the program to go forward.
