State Releases Evaluations For Gloucester Township Teachers
Teachers in both local public school districts were categorized in the Department of Education's newest evaluations.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — The results are in for teachers in both local public school districts. The New Jersey Department of Education released its staff evaluations based on the 2015-16 school year last week.
Teachers and staff across the state are graded and categorized as “highly effective,” “effective," "partially effective" and "ineffective." Results were released last week.
In the Gloucester Township K-8 Public School District, 366 out of 521 total teachers were deemed “effective,” while 154 were deemed “highly effective.” No data was provided for the other two categories. Out of the 21 principals, assistant principals and vice principals in the district, 16 were deemed “highly effective” and no data was provided for the other categories.

In the Black Horse Pike Regional School District, 179 out of 271 total teachers were deemed “effective,” while 89 are “highly effective.” No data was provided for the other two categories. There are 15 principals, assistant principals and vice principals in the district, and no data was provided for them.

Nearly two-thirds of the state’s 112,000 teachers were found to be “effective” and another third were “highly effective,” according to a report from NJ Spotlight.
State law requires each district to use a standardized system to evaluate teacher performance based on classroom observation and a form of student performance. It has been in effect since the State Legislature passed a tenure system five years ago to determine the strongest and weakest teachers in the state.
