Third Annual Water Walk At Highland Set For May 17

Members of the community will be challenged to walk a mile while carrying two- gallon water jugs in the fight to end the water crisis.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — The people of Swaziland, Africa travel miles, carrying weighted containers to gather water from the only source available. This water, which is difficult to access, is usually contaminated, and cause illness in the people of which it is consumed.

The Black Horse Pike Regional School District’s Green Team has been speaking out against this for three years, and that effort continues with the Walk for Water on Thursday, May 17, 5 p.m. at the Highland Regional High School football field.

“Our mission is to bring an end to the global water crisis by challenging the community to walk a mile while carrying two- gallon water jugs,” the school district said in a release. “By doing this, you will get a small glimpse into the life of many of these African children.”
