Triton Baseball Team Advances In Diamond Classic
Triton defeated Delran, 3-1, in the first round of the Diamond Classic on Monday.
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Triton Regional High School baseball team’s first appearance in the Joe Hartmann Diamond Classic in over 20 years reportedly drew some attention.
The media, the fans and a college coach came out to see the seventh seeded Mustangs defeat No. 10 Delran, 3-1, in the first round of South Jersey’s unofficial championship tournament on Monday, nj.com reports.
Winning pitcher Colin Taylor told the media outlet he “wanted this one badly.” He struck out 10 batters in seven innings of work. He was also 2-for-3 with an RBI at the plate.

Jake Snyder and Thomas Hughes each also had an RBI, as Triton scored all three of its runs in the first two innings. Delran’s lone run came in the top of the second, off an RBI by Kris Giangreco.
Triton will play No. 2 Bishop Eustance in the quarterfinals on Saturday, May 11, at Washington Township, 1 p.m. The semifinal follows at 4 p.m. The final is set for Wednesday night, May 15, 6:30 p.m. at Eastern.

Highland also qualified for the tournament as the No. 11 seed. The Tartans fell to No. 6 Shawnee, 3-2, in the first round on Tuesday, according to nj.com. Mark Cotton and Matt Schaffer each had an RBI in the loss.
Highland fell to 12-5 and will visit Deptford in a regular season game on Wednesday.
