Triton Baseball Unbeaten; Highland Has 1 Loss

Triton was one of eight undefeated teams in New Jersey as of Wednesday, according to nj.com.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Triton Regional High School baseball team is one of eight in the state that remains undefeated, according to nj.com.

Triton broke a tie in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 2-1 win over Haddon Heights on April 11. Jake Durham and Mike Shannon each had an RBI in the win. Matt Woods pitched 1.2 innings, striking out one batter for the win. Colin Taylor fanned nine batters in 5.1 innings of work. He gave up seven hits and an unearned run.

Shannon picked up the win in a 2-1 victory over Delsea on April 17. He struck out 11 batters and gave up seven hits in six innings of work to pick up the win. Woods and Ray Spraggins each went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Taylor was the winner in Triton’s 8-6 win over Washington Township on April 18. He struck out two batters and went 1-for-2 with an RBI at the plate. Shannon, Spraggins, Nick Woods, John Scarborough, Jake Snyder and Aiden Sommers all had RBI in the win.

Shannon’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh provided the winning run in a 2-1 win over Williamstown on April 23. He also went the distance, striking out eight and allowing three hits and one run, to pick up the win on the mound.

Highland is also on that list, albeit as a one-loss team. The loss came at the hands of GCIT, 7-6,on April 17. GCIT scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to break a 5-5 tie, then held on for the win.

Highland rebounded with a 3-1 win over St. Mary’s (NY) on April 23. Brian Cooney was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI in the win. Bill Richards-Jackson was 1-for-3 with an RBI double. Highland is now 6-1.

Their previously scheduled game was rained out, but Highland and Triton are currently scheduled to meet at Triton on May 13.
