Lockdown Lifted at Virtua Hospital in Berlin

The hospital was locked down after a woman claimed she was exposed to a potentially toxic substance.

Virtua Hospital in Berlin Borough was was put on lockdown early Monday afternoon after a woman entered the building claiming she was exposed to a white powder that was potentially toxic.

The lockdown has been lifted after testing revealed no toxic substance and authorities learned the woman has a history of sensitive skin, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

The woman went to the hospital after she opened an envelope and experienced a burning sensation on her hands.

The Camden County Hazardous Materials Unit secured the waiting area while conducting tests on the substance.

The tests came up negative.

The woman has a history of skin sensitivity to glue and glue from the envelope was the likely cause of her symptoms, according to the Prosecutor's Office.
