Woman Arrested In 4-Year-Old Daughter's Death: Police

Lucy Gunter is accused of not seeking medical attention for her daughter, who ultimately died.

A Camden woman stands accused of not seeking medical attention for her 4-year-old child, who ultimately died, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson said on Wednesday.

Lucy Gunter, 20, was arrested and charged with one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child for failing to seek medical attention for signs of injuries to her child.

Police and paramedics responded to the 1400 block of South 9th Street in Camden City for a 9-1-1 call at about 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday. Upon arrival, EMTs found the child unresponsive with injuries to her face.

She was taken by ambulance to Cooper University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at about 8:58 a.m.

Gunter was remanded to Camden County Jail pending the pretrial detention hearing set for Friday morning. Under the recent Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order the mother be detained without bail or released with conditions.
