Centenary University Hosts Community ESL Course

School of Professional Studies invites area residents to register for 8-week course in Parsippany, which begins April 3

Hackettstown, N.J., March 19, 2019—Centenary University will host an eight-week Community English as a Second Language (ESL) course beginning Wednesday, April 3. Classes, which are open to members of the local community, will run from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the University’s School of Professional Studies, 7 Campus Drive, Parsippany.

The course is designed to help immigrants and other non-native English speakers develop proficiency in English to acquire the basic knowledge and skills they need to function effectively as parents, workers, and citizens. It is designed to serve those who have limited ability speaking, reading, writing, or understanding the English language; whose native language is a language other than English; or who live in a family or community where a language other than English is the dominant language.

Open to adults, ages 18 and over, the course runs through May 22 and will be taught by Lauren Lesce, ESL coordinator in the Centenary University Office of International Programs. Lesce holds a master’s degree in linguistic studies from Syracuse University. The program is part of Centenary University’s commitment to enhance engagement between the University and members of the local community.
