Drunk Driving Crackdown Yields 71 Arrests
Three-week campaign brings in 177 additional moving and non-moving tickets.

The annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign in Hackettstown resulted in a slew of arrests and seizures over a three-week period, according to Hackettstown Police.
Designed to stop motorists from driving while under the influence and/or intoxicated from Dec. 7 to Jan. 2, Hackettstown’s campaign finished with:
- 9 Driving While Intoxicated Arrests
- 20 Drug Arrests
- 21 Felony Arrests
- 21 Fugitives Apprehended
- 9 Seatbelt Infractions
- 1 Child Restraint Ticket
- 15 Suspended Driver’s License Tickets
- 7 Uninsured Drive Tickets
- 3 Speeding Tickets
- 1 Reckless Driving Ticket
- 177 Additional moving and non-moving tickets issued
Launched in 1999 nationally, the program works to combat drunk driving during some of the busiest travel times of the year, the release said. Last year in New Jersey, 152 people were killed as a result of alcohol-impaired crashes. That number makes up 24-percent of the 627 traffic fatalities reported in the state in 2011, the release said.
