Duo Stole More than $8K Worth of Liquor, Police Say

One man jailed, the other sought in pair of thefts from ShopRite Wine and Liquors.

A 53-year-old Paterson man was arrested and a 45-year-old Willingsboro man is being sought after 31 bottles of alcohol were stolen from the ShopRite Liquors on March 17 and 24, Hackettstown Police said.

According to Sgt. Darren Tynan, Randy Reed and Clarence Jones stole 10 bottles of Hennessy Cognac (valued at $299.90), six bottles of Grey Goose Vodka (valued at $239.94) and four bottles of Johnnie Walker Black (valued at $259.96) on March 17.

Tynan said the duo concealed between the both of them 20 bottles in their waistband, jacket and then exited the store.

According to Tynan, Reed returned to the store on March 24 and stole five bottles of Johnnie Walker Black (valued at $324.95) and six bottles of Johnnie Walker Double Black (valued at $239.94), again concealing the bottles in his waistband and jacket before exiting the store.

Reed was in custody at Caldwell PD on a shoplifting complaint out of their jurisdiction and was served with the Hackettstown complaints of one count of shoplifting in the third degree, one count of shoplifting in the fourth degree and had bail set at $5,000, Tynan said. Tynan said Reed still has a pending court appearance.

Jones was charged with one count of shoplifting in the third degree and bail was set at $4,000.00, but had not been arrested yet, Tynan said.
