With Fare Hikes Proposed, NJ Transit Coming to Morris County for Public Input
New rates would take effect in September, organization says.

With thousands of Morris County-area residents using public transportation to commute to and from work and other venues on a daily basis, a rate increase from New Jersey Transit will make a huge difference to rail and bus riders.
That’s what’s currently proposed by New Jersey Transit, who announced April 20 it faces a significant budget gap, and needs to eliminate a $60 million shortfall for the 2016 spending plan.
“To close the gap, fare and service adjustments are being proposed,” the organization said.

The Morristown train station, the most heavily used in the county, has a proposed $1 fare hike coming for daily commutes, and a monthly pass increase of $32, from $361 to $393.
The proposed service and fare changes would take effect in September 2015 and October 1, 2015, respectively, NJT said.
