Fisherman Drowns After Boat Sinks In Delaware River, NJ Police Say

WARREN COUNTY, NJ — A Pennsylvania man is dead after drowning in the Delaware River following a boating incident, New Jersey State Police say.

On Friday, police were called to the South Foul Rift Road outside Belvidere, on the Warren County side of the river, on reports of a drowning.

Police found an unresponsive 69-year-old man, later identified as Robin M. Bet, of Bangor. He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators believe Bet had tried to swim to shore after his boat began taking on water, police said. He drowned while attempting to reach safety, according to state police.

An investigation into the drowning is still underway.

Bet's obituary says he was an avid fisherman, adding that he was participating in a Shad tournament at the time of the incident. It adds, "he left us while doing what he loved."
