NJ Dunkin’ Worker Sickened By Carbon Monoxide, Faulty HVAC To Blame: Police

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A New Jersey Dunkin’ store employee was sickened by carbon monoxide while at work Wednesday due to faulty building mechanics, police said.

Hackettstown police, fire and first aid personnel responded to the Mountain Avenue Dunkin’ location around 5:12 a.m. in response to an activated carbon monoxide alarm.

All staff exited the building, but only one store employee reported symptoms of illness.

The employee, a 21-year-old Mansfield woman, complained of a headache and nausea but refused medical attention, Hackettstown police said.

An investigation found that a faulty HVAC unit in the store caused elevated levels of carbon monoxide, police said. The unit was shut down and the building was ventilated.

The Dunkin’ location was closed for about an hour but has since reopened, police said.
