Hackettstown Man Scammed Hospital For $31K In Treatment: Police

Enrique Rodriguez-Ortiz provided false documents to officials, police said.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - A 64-year-old Hackettstown man was charged with theft of services from Hackettstown Medical Center after a five month investigation, according to police.

Hackettstown Police began their investigation in September of 2019 when officials from Hackettstown Medical Center contacted them to investigate a fraud complaint.

Through the investigation, police determined that Enrique Rodriguez-Ortiz of Hackettstown provided a false name, false social security card and a false permanent resident card on July 25, 2016, Sept. 16, 2017, Sept. 27, 2017, May 23, 2019 and Aug. 31, 2019 to staff members of the hospital in order to obtain services from the facility, police said.

The total loss incurred by the hospital was $31,380.43. Rodriguez-Ortiz was charged on Feb. 28 with theft of services, providing false name for the purpose of obtaining benefits, and exhibit false document. Enrique was released pending a court appearance, police said.
