3,000-Gallon Spill Cleaned Up at Chocolate Plant

Pre-process material leaked onto the Mars Chocolate property and then into Bowers Brook.

A broken pipe at Mars Chocolate North America brought county hazmat teams to the site at just before 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Hackettstown Police said.

According to police, a pipe at 800 High St., carrying pre-process water leaked onto the property and then into Bowers Brook.

Police said approximately 3,000 gallons leaked from the pipe but it’s unsure how much leaked into the brook.

The Hackettstown Fire Dept and the Warren County Hazmat Team responded to the scene and there is no environmental threat, police said. NJ Department of Environmental Protection was also notified of the incident and there is a company on the scene that is in the process of cleaning up the spill, police said.
