Man Charged for Killing Bear With Bow and Arrow

A 30-year-old Hackettstown man has been charged for killing a black bear on his property with a bow and arrow, Hackettstown Police said.

David Denbleyker is being held at the Warren County Correctional facility in lieu of $5,000 bail after being charged with possession of a weapon by a person convicted of a felony, according to a statement released by Det. Darren Tynan.

Hackettstown Police were called to West Baldwin Street on Oct. 10 after receiving a report of an injured bear, the statement said.

According to the police statement, patrol arrived at 314 West Baldwin and found the bear was dead in a backyard.

Members of the Hackettstown Police and the NJ Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Fish and Wildlife Bureau investigated the incident and Denbleyker admitted to using the bow and arrow to shoot the bear, the statement said.

The NJ Department of Environmental Protection’s Division of Fish and Wildlife Bureau charged Denbleyker with killing a black bear during a closed season, did kill a black bear in a manner other then presented by state game code, did possess a nocked arrow within 150 feet of an occupied dwelling and did kill a black bear without first obtaining a special black bear hunting permit, the statement said.
