Pharmacy Tech career within reach at WCCC

Local employers hiring Pharmacy Technicians are often seeking candidates with the National Certification

PHILLIPSBURG (Feb. 11, 2019) – Pharmacy Technicians, one of the fastest growing occupations in the country, is an essential part of any pharmacy, and certification is now within reach at Warren County Community College’s Phillipsburg Education Center.

The spring Pharmacy Technician program runs Tuesday and Thursday evening April 9 through May 28th. Class is held from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists in preparing prescriptions, keeping records of drugs used, ordering supplies, and preparing IV packs, among other responsibilities.

Well trained and skilled pharmacy technicians are especially important now as baby boomers enter into retirement and scientific advances increase day by day.

Through hands-on lesson plans that include an optional 80-hour blended externship experience, students will be prepared to work in hospitals, home infusions, and pharmaceutical manufacturing or community retail pharmacies.

The course will prepare students for national certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certifying Board, which requires an additional fee if pursuing. Prior to entry students must take an arithmetic & reading comprehensive placement tests or have some previous college level courses.
