Samantha Goldman '13 Makes Football History at Mercersburg Academy

Far Hills, NJ – Far Hills Country Day School (FHCDS) Alumna Samantha Goldman ’13 became the first female Mercersburg Academy football player to score in a game going 5-for-5 on extra points in the Blue Storm’s 35-6 JV win on September 15. In her next game on September 20th she converted two more points to become the first female to score a point in a varsity football game. She also made a tackle on special teams and had one rushing attempt in the JV contest. Ms. Goldman, of Green Brook, NJ, played on Mercersburg Academy’s girls’ varsity soccer, JV basketball and JV lacrosse teams last year as a freshman.
When asked how it felt to make Mercersburg football history, Ms. Goldman said, “After my first extra point went through, my first thought was relief! In my heart, I knew I could do it, but in my head, I was hoping that I would not mess it up. By the fifth one, I started to feel pretty confident! Nick Rubino, the snapper, and Beau Lowrey, the holder, both freshman players, put in a lot of time and effort to perfect their positions, and I’m glad we succeeded all together.”
