Small but Mighty!

The small but mighty Hackettstown High School Swim team rocks it this year!

Small but Mighty

The Hackettstown High School Swim team is small but mighty. This spirited team of 16 began only 4 years ago in the 2013-14 school year. These dedicated swimmers head to Centenary to practice daily Monday through Friday from November through February. This demonstrates equal parts of passion for the sport, dedication, and teamwork. The team has had many successes to brag about this season with 75% of its swimmers qualifying for championships. This is the highest percentage of swimmers attending champs so far in the history of this team. Additionally, all of the girls’ high school records were broken this year in all events as well as three for the boy’s team. Record breakers were seniors Danielle Magnotta and Pam Santos, sophomore Stephanie Scupoline, and freshman Morgan Bailey. The male record breakers were juniors Collin Bailey, James Carkhuff, Joe Tagliareni and sophomore Philip Ruppel.

In our two championship meets, the swimmers rocked. The Sussex County Championship was held on February 4th and 12 of our 16 swimmers qualified. Not only that, Danielle Magnotta finished 4th in the 500 free style, Collin Bailey came in 5th in the 100 butterfly and both the girls and boys 200 freestyle relays finished 5th overall. The weekend prior, the team attended HWS Championship and again, 11 of our 16 swimmers qualified. We earned points in five events. Collin Bailey finished 7th in the 100 fly, Danielle Magnotta finished 9th in the 100 free style and Morgan Bailey came in 11th in the 100 backstroke with both the girls 200 free style relay and the girls medley relay both finishing 9th, respectively. The following students made NJAC All Conference, 2nd team in the Boys 200 Medley Relay; Joseph Tagliareni, Collin Bailey, James Carkhuff and Philip Ruppel. Danielle Magnotta was awarded 2nd team NJAC All Conference in the Girls 200 Freestyle. Way to go Tigers!
