Teen Planned to Sell Pot Near School, Cops Say

A Secaucus teen allegedly had a quarter-pound of marijuana in his car and planned to distribute it near a school before being arrested, Hackettstown Police Sgt. Darren Tynan said.

Hackettstown police stopped Adam Swift, 19, on Grand Avenue for having tinted windows last Tuesday just after midnight, Tynan said. When the officer approached the vehicle, he smelled burnt marijuana, and requested Swift to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed, Tynan said.

Swift admitted there was more marijuana in the car, and led the officer to the trunk of the vehicle, Tynan said. Police found a quarter-pound bag of marijuana wrapped in coffee grounds, Tynan said.

Swift was charged with intent to distribute marijuana in a quantity of one ounce or more but less than five pounds, possession with intent to distribute 158 grams of marijuana within 1,000 feet of the Hackettstown Middle School, possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana, driving while under the influence of marijuana, improper safety glass, possession of controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, and under the influence of marijuana while operating a motor vehicle.

Swift posted the $2,500 bail and was released. Swift’s passenger, Joseph Mazza, 20, of Succasunna, was also charged with being under the influence of marijuana, Tynan said.
