Timing Of Hackettstown's 'Blue Line' Repainting Post Questioned
A social media post celebrating the painting of a blue line supporting police has drawn criticism.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - While many throughout New Jersey and across the nation were commemorating Juneteenth, the anniversary of the emancipation of African Americans from slavery in the United States, last Friday officials in Hackettstown chose to post about another topic.
The Hackettstown Police Department Mayor Maria DiGiovanni posted photos of the new blue line painted in support of police in town. The move sparked discussion with DiGiovanni.
According to DiGiovanni she received numerous messages and emails both supportive and non-supportive of the Facebook post of repainting of the Blue Line and the post being published on Juneteenth.

"It was never my intention to be insensitive to anyone. I take full responsibility of the timing of the post being published on that day," she posted to social media. "I fully respect the Black Lives Matter Movement, believing in social justice and everyone being treated fairly and equally."
DiGiovanni said we should learn from each other and move forward together to create a better community where all diversities are welcomed.
