Rabid Bat Found In South Jersey: See Where

CAMDEN COUNTY, NJ — A bat that had rabies was found in a Haddonfield home, the Camden County Department of Health and Human Services said.

On Saturday, residents found a bat in their attic. They were able to safely contain it and remove it from the home.

Animal control took the bat away and arranged for it to be checked for rabies at the state Public Health & Environmental Laboratories in Trenton.

On Thursday, the labs told the County's Department of Health that the bat was rabid.

There were no human exposures, but three cats were affected.

All three of the cats received the rabies booster, according to the County, and will be under confinement and observation for 45 days.

Rabies can be prevented by early treatment after being exposed. Anyone who has been bitten or scratched by a wild animal should seek medical attention immediately.
