Haddon Township, Haddonfield Advance to Boys' Soccer Semifinals

Both schools' girls' soccer teams also advanced last week.

The Haddon Township High School boys’ soccer team has scored 12 goals through two playoff games, according to nj.com.

In the first round, top-seeded Haddon Township defeated No. 16 Salem, 7-0. Mario Mandescu and Bah Moo each scored two goals in the win. Elzo Dunn, Kyle Wade and Kyler White each added a goal. Goalie Scott LaPan made one save.

In the quarterfinals, Haddon Township defeated No. 8 Pitman, 5-1. Kyler White led the way with three goals. Chris Kobsar and Bah Moo added the other two goals. Goalie Scott LaPan made three saves.

Haddon Township hosts No. 4 Glassboro in the semifinals.

The Eagles entered the playoffs as the No. 1 seed. In the first round, they defeated No. 16 Bridgeton, 6-0. Luke McKeown and Zach Peterson each scored twice in the win. Dylan Morgan and Gary Simmons scored the other goals. Goalie Perry Corsetti made three saves.

In the quarterfinals, the Eagles downed No. 8 Haddon Heights, 5-1.  Cole Van Dorick led the way with two goals, followed by RJ Eckley, Kevin Gill and Luke McKeown with a goal apiece. Goalie Perry Corsetti made five saves.

Haddonfield entered the playoffs as the No. 4 seed. In the first round, the Bulldawgs ousted No. 13 Barnegat, 1-0, on a goal from Brendan Werner. He was able to beat Barnegat goalie Max Ritner, who made 18 saves. Haddonfield goalie Jonathan Baxter made five stops.

Haddonfield went all the way to a shootout to beat No. 5 Sterling in the quarterfinals. The game was scoreless after regulation and two overtime periods. Haddonfield goalie Jonathan Baxter made 12 saves.

Girls' soccer

No. 1 Haddonfield advanced to the semifinals of the NJSIAA South jersey Group 2 playoffs with a 5-0 win over No. 8 Pemberton in the quarterfinals.

Five different players scored for the Bulldawgs, including Grace Baccare, Carly Bonnett, Kaitlyn Bonnett, Madison Castellano and Lauren Roberts.

Goalie Taylor Sehdev made one save.

Haddonfield hosts No. 5 Lower Cape May in the semifinals.

Haddon Township will unexpectedly host a semifinal playoff game.

Based on seeding, Haddon Township was expected to advance this far. Haddon entered the NJSIAA South jersey Group 1 playoffs as the No. 4 seed.

It defeated No. 13 Wildwood, 6-0, in the first round behind a three-goal effort from Kim Gaskill. Katie Burns, Erin Butrica and Giulia Dunn scored the other goals. Goalie Sarah Getzinger made four saves.

Haddon Township won its quarterfinal match with No. 5 Pitman by one goal, another game it would’ve been expected to win. Emily Foley, Amanda Fox and Brenna Smith all scored in a 3-2 win. Goalie Sarah Getzinger made three saves.

The game was tied, 1-1, at halftime.

The unexpected part of the equation is Haddon Township’s semifinal opponent.

No. 8 Woodbury upset No. 1 Pennsville, 2-0, in the quarterfinals, handing Haddon Township homefield advantage in the semifinals.

Field hockey

Haddonfield and Haddon Township were both eliminated from the playoffs last week .

No. 5 Haddon Township fell, 1-0, to No. 4 Gloucester City in the quarterfinals of the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group 1 playoffs. Gloucester’s goal came from Amber Gundle, with an assist by Mackenzie Cooper. Haddon Township goalie Jillian Caputo made 13 saves in a losing effort.

No. 7 Haddonfield was ousted by No. 2 Haddon Heights, 3-0. Jacqui Rosati scored two goals for Haddon Heights, and Madison Mignona scored the other.
