Haddonfield Memorial High School Wins ShopRite Cup For Championship Excellence

The award is presented in recognition of excellent performance in state championship sporting events.

HADDONFIELD, NJ — Haddonfield Memorial High School is one of six high schools that was recently honored with the 13th annual ShopRite Cup. The award is presented by ShopRite and the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association (NJSIAA) in recognition of excellent performance in state championship sporting events. It has been awarded since 2004.

The winning schools, including four public schools and two private schools, were awarded points by finishing in the top four in their group’s state championship competitions in 31 NJSIAA-sanctioned sports, with additional bonus points given for good sportsmanship.

Haddonfield earned 118 points to defeat Mountain Lakes and Manasquan, which each earned 69 points, in Group 2. Out of all the winners, Haddonfield was second only to Christian Brothers Academy, which earned 168 points in Non-Public A. Other recipients included:
  • Villa Walsh Academy, Morristown;
  • Ridge High School, Basking Ridge;
  • West Essex High School, North Caldwell; and
  • Shore Regional High School, West Long Branch.

Each school, including Haddonfield, received a banner for display in its gymnasium along with ShopRite Cup trophies. Congratulatory banners are also displayed in local ShopRite stores in Haddonfield to celebrate the winners.

“ShopRite has a long history of commitment to the communities it serves, especially in support of educational and athletic programs at local schools,” ShopRite’s Community Relations Manager Christine Magyarits said. “We are so proud of these students’ hard work and the ShopRite Cup is our way of recognizing the student athletes, not only for their outstanding performances, but also for their commitment, dedication and teamwork.”

“Now in its thirteenth year, the ShopRite Cup has been a tremendous vehicle to motivate students through athletic performance and healthy competition,” NJSIAA Executive Director Steven Timko said. “The awards are a reflection of the hard work, determination and self-discipline the student athletes put forth throughout the year, providing an invaluable lesson they can carry with them in future endeavors.”
