Haddonfield, West Deptford Meet For SJ Football Title Sunday

The Bulldawgs and Eagles face off for the Group 2 title Sunday at Rowan.

GLASSBORO, NJ — A pair of rivals will compete for the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 2 high school football championship this weekend. No. 1 seed West Deptford (10-1) will face sixth-seeded Haddonfield (8-3) in the final at Rowan University on Sunday, Dec. 3, 11 a.m.

It is the second time the teams will meet this season. On Oct. 20, West Deptford edged Haddonfield, 17-14, in overtime of a game both teams entered undefeated, according to nj.com. Mike Bilodeau hit the game-winning 35-yard field goal.

West Deptford’s Tyshawn Bookman and Haddonfield’s Jay Foley each had two touchdown runs for their teams in that game, played at West Deptford.

Since that game, Haddonfield has gone 3-2, and West Deptford went 5-1.

West Deptford advanced to the championship game with a 28-20 win over fourth-seeded Cedar Creek in the semifinals. Ken Lim rushed for three touchdowns in the win. In the first round, West Deptford defeated eighth-seeded Pleasantville, 51-12. Seven of the Eagles' eight touchdowns in that game came on the ground.

Haddonfield advanced to the championship game with a 35-8 win over seventh-seeded Cinnaminson in the semifinals. Jay Foley threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in the win. In the first round, Haddonfield upset third-seeded Sterling, 17-7. Nick Patrizi ran for a pair of touchdowns in that win.

West Deptford is coming off a 35-26 win over rival Paulsboro. Haddonfield is coming off a 47-27 Thanksgiving Day win over Haddon Heights.

Tickets are $5.50 for adults and $2 for students and seniors. Parking is free. Rowan University is located at 201 Mullica Hill Road in Glassboro.
