International Day Celebration In Camden County Saturday

The event honors the many cultures of Camden County through performances, food and educational programming.

Camden County’s annual International Day Celebration is set for this weekend. It will take place on Saturday, Oct. 13, noon at the Camden County College Connector Building Atrium, 200 College Drive in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township. The event honors the many cultures of Camden County through performances, food and educational programming.

“This is a great opportunity to celebrate Camden County’s diversity with pageantry, entertainment and food. The event has been organized to promote an understanding and appreciation of each of our rich cultural backgrounds,” Camden County Freeholder Susan Shin Angulo said. “I encourage residents to come out and enjoy the free event with their friends and neighbors by sampling food, listening to music and enjoying performances from around the world.”

Shin Angulo will introduce the members of the newly formed Camden County Cultural Awareness Commission. The 13-member board is charged with facilitating awareness of the cultural diversity of the various ethnic, racial, and religious groups within the County of Camden through seminars, educational programs, exhibits and guest speakers.

International Day begins with a parade of flags from 76 different countries, representing the 76 countries from which Camden County College students hail. Foods from around the world will be available for tasting, vendors will have cultural items for sale and international performances will take place throughout the event.
Academic presentations and workshops will be offered from various college departments including a short lecture on the role of the U.S. on the global economy, and multi-cultural poetry readings.
