Man Surrenders After Being Charged in Fatal South Jersey Shooting

Darnell L. Samuels surrendered on Tuesday in connection with the shooting death of 24-year-old John Gardner.

A South Jersey man has surrendered after being charged in the fatal shooting of a Paulsboro man last week, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office said on Tuesday.

Darnell L. Samuels, 33, of Pennsville, turned himself in at the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, which was investigating the murder along with the Paulsboro Police Department, on Tuesday. He was accompanied by his attorney.

Samuels is charged with knowing or purposeful murder, possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a firearm in the death of 24-year-old John Gardner.

Gardner was shot multiple times on the 1300 block of Pine Street just after 11 p.m. on June 20. He was pronounced dead around midnight at Inspira Hospital, Woodbury.

Samuels was turned over to the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department for transfer to jail.

Bail was set at $1 million.
