Sidewalk Driver Smashes Into Haddonfield Restaurant's Storefront: Cops

He also tried breaking into several homes while fleeing on foot, authorities said.

HADDONFIELD, NJ — A driver who crashed into Haddonfield restaurant's storefront faces 16 criminal charges for his multi-town rampage, authorities said.

Christian Capacchione's vehicle struck The British Chip Shop's exterior at about 5:45 p.m. on Kings Highway, officials said. One hour later, he got into another crash in Audubon and fled the scene on foot, according to police.

Capacchione attempted to break into several homes on the 100 block of S Barrett Avenue in Audubon, police said. Responding officers found him running through one of the home's backyards. As law enforcement made their way to the yard, Capacchione tried breaking into a home as he stood on its elevated deck, authorities said.

Two Audubon officers sustained minor injuries when Capacchione initially resisted arrest, police said. They were treated at a local medical facility and released.

No injuries were reported in Haddonfield or Haddon Township, where Capacchione also drove erratically, police said.

The preliminary investigation found Capacchione, of National Park, entered or tried to enter six homes and one vehicle in Audubon, officials said.

Capacchione's charges include terroristic threats, burglary, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.

Capacchione, 30, was placed in the Camden County Jail.

British Chip Shop Partially Reopens

The British Chip Shop's interior remained intact. At first, the British eatery needed to close until further notice for repairs and pending investigation. But on Friday afternoon, the downtown restaurant received word that its building was structurally sound.

"We are able to remain open on one side of the restaurant!!" the business said on its Facebook page. "We are staying optimistic and will make the best of the situation. We truly appreciate your kind words and support!"
