Six Shooting Deaths Reported in Seven Days in Camden

Two more shootings were reported in the City Monday night.

The number of people who have been shot to death in Camden over the course of the last week reached six on Monday night when Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson reported two more homicides in the City.

Camden County Police received a call at 5:59 p.m. for a gunshot victim at Haddon Avenue and Spruce Street.

Officers found the victim, Nelson Jackson, 37, of Camden, in front of a residence in the 800 block of Haddon Avenue. He had been shot multiples times.

Jackson was taken to Cooper University Hospital and was pronounced dead at 7:16 p.m.

Police then responded at 8:19 p.m. to another shooting and found Daniel Damon, 21, of Camden, fatally shot on the 700 block of Morgan Boulevard. He was dead when police arrived at the scene.

Detectives do not believe the shootings are related. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

The shootings come at a time when Camden is trying to turn things around, and the murder rate was down in the City for the first six months of 2014 from the same period in 2013, according to the New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Report.

And then came a spat of shootings.

Last Monday, 21-year-old Karen Ramirez was shot to death in Camden.

Gustavo Jimenez, 20, of Camden, surrendered to law enforcement officials in Pennsauken on Wednesday and was charged in connection with the murder.

Andrew L. Anderson, 24, was discovered by Camden County Police around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday morning after being shot multiple times. A Philadelphia man was shot in the same incident, and was in critical condition following the incident.

The most recent shootings were reported on Sunday.

Armir Lee Thomas-Money, 24, of Camden, was shot at Front and Vine streets just before 4:40 a.m., and was pronounced dead just before 5:54 a.m.

Finally, Wesley L. Nelms, 20, was shot just before 6:30 a.m. n the porch of a residence in the 1100 block of Chase Street, and pronounced dead at 6:54 a.m.
