'It Meant Everything': South Jersey Diner Reopens After Fire With Help From Community
The newly-branded restaurant was closed for nearly a year.

HADDON TOWNSHIP, NJ — Nearly a year after a kitchen fire closed operations, the beloved Westmont Diner began a new chapter on Thursday.
Newly branded as "The Westmont" with the "same heart" and an "elevated experience," the restaurant had its soft opening from 8 a.m. to noon.

"Throughout the process, the support and patience from the community made it easier," said Uditi, Marketing Manager with The Westmont. "Our team stayed positive and committed, and we focused on making sure that when we did reopen, we would do it the right way."

Nobody was hurt in the kitchen fire that broke out at around 1:30 a.m. on March 26, 2025, but what followed was months of a timeline that was repeatedly shattered as rebuilding continued.
What started as a two-week estimate grew to a few months, and then all the way into December before finally gearing up for its relaunch on Thursday.

Through the help of a GoFundMe launched by management, the essential safety repairs were made, along with a complete modernization of the kitchen area.
"It meant everything to us, the amount of support we received," added Uditi, "from donations to messages of people simply checking in were incredibly moving.
"It reminded us that The Westmont is more than just a place to eat. It's a part of people's daily routines, family traditions, and memories."
The restaurant collaborated with a number of local businesses, contractors, and partners to help bring everything back together in a way that would maintain the same quality and atmosphere, but also improve workflow and safety for its staff.

"We hope they feel at home again," said Uditi on the community being welcomed back. "At the same time, we hope they see improvements and feel proud that this place they care about is back and stronger than ever."
The Westmont moved to its current location, the former site of the Crystal Lake Diner, at 572 W Cuthbert Ave. in Haddon in 2021.
