The United States is also close to surpassing the all-time high of $4.11 for a gallon of gas that the country paid for a gallon of gas in 2008, according to the Energy Information Administration.
To get the most efficiency from a tank of gas, Consumer Reports advises filling up on regular gasoline instead of premium since it will not make a difference in terms of most cars' performance, checking tire pressures regularly, avoiding unnecessary and sudden braking, and frequently checking websites and apps for the lowest gas prices.
