Two More Shooting Murders Reported in Camden

Two separate shootings were reported overnight. A total of four people have been shot to death in the City in the last week.

Four people have now been shot to death in Camden in less than a week following the announcement of two more shooting murders Sunday afternoon.

Camden County Police responded to reports of gunfire shortly before 4:40 a.m. Sunday at Front and Vine streets, according to Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson.

Officers were unable to locate a victim. Shortly thereafter, police were informed a gunshot victim had arrived at Cooper University Hospital in a private vehicle.

The victim, Armir Lee Thomas-Money, 24, of Camden, had been shot once and was pronounced dead at 5:54 a.m.

Shortly after 6:30 a.m., police responded to reports of gunfire at Louis and Chase streets. Officers found Wesley L. Nelms, 20, of Camden, on the porch of a residence in the 1100 block of Chase Street. He had been shot once.

Nelms was taken by ambulance to Cooper and was pronounced dead at 6:54 a.m.

Detectives do not believe the killings are related. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.

The shootings come at a time when Camden is trying to turn things around, and the murder rate was down in the City for the first six months of 2014 from the same period in 2013, according to the New Jersey State Police Uniform Crime Report.

And then came a spat of shootings.

On Monday, 21-year-old Karen Ramirez was shot to death in Camden.

Gustavo Jimenez, 20, of Camden, surrendered to law enforcement officials in Pennsauken on Wednesday and was charged in connection with the murder.

Andrew L. Anderson, 24, was discovered by Camden County Police around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday morning after being shot multiple times. A Philadelphia man was shot in the same incident, and was in critical condition following the incident.
