BOE Business Staff Should Be Back in Its Office by End of Week

Work to repair ground floor of BOE office, which was damaged by hurricane flooding, should be done by end of the week.

The business office staff hopes to be back in its ground floor office at the building by the end of the week after being displaced for two months due to flood damage caused by Hurricane Irene.

Dina Messery, business administrator, said all the work to repair the office should be done by Friday. Messery and three other business office staff members have been working out of the superintendent’s conference room on the main floor for nearly two months since flooding from the hurricane late August caused severe damage to their office space.

People have been using the main line at the board office to reach the business staff while they’ve been working on the main floor and Messery says their regular phone extensions should be up and running by early next week.

A lot of clean-up work was done, Messery said. The floor had been damaged and had to be replaced, and mold and mildew had accumulated. She said an air quality test will be done this week to make sure all mold has been removed before the business office moves back in. A sump pump and French drain were put in to prevent such flooding from every happening again, said Messery.

Prior to the hurricane, the office experienced some flooding but nothing as severe as this, she said.

Messery pointed out that sump pumps and French drain was just put in at Euclid School over the summer due to some ongoing flooding problems and thankfully nothing happened to the school during the hurricane. Although it’s been somewhat challenging working out of boxes while being displaced she is just happy that this did not happen to the school children.
