Board of Education Will Reopen Search for Special Services Director

Based on public input board decided to see other candidates for position

The has decided to reopen its search for the director of special services position as a result of feedback from the community.

Richard Giarratana, president, told the public Thursday night that the board received a lot of feedback from the community during the They therefore decided the best decision was to reopen the process and start over again.

“That is our decision and it’s the right decision,” Giarratana told the audience. “It’s your comments that really helped us dramatically. It’s a team effort. The nine of us just can’t pick, we need your input.”

He added that he hopes to begin the process as soon as possible and has also decided to have the BOE’s special education committee be involved in the process.

Andrea Freeman, who currently holds the position, will leave at the end of this school year. The board hopes to have a replacement in place by July 1.

Giarratana added that the board plans to present another community outreach forum once the next recruiting process comes down to two final candidates.
