NJ Trucker Charged With Attempted Murder After 8 Crashes, 'Road Rage' Incident

A Jersey City trucker caused eight crashes and tried to strangle a driver on an Illinois interstate, police said.

JERSEY CITY, NJ – A 25-year-old Jersey City truck driver caused eight crashes on a Chicago-area highway on Tuesday, then beat a driver in a road rage incident, said police.

Hassan A. Moutassim was charged with attempted murder and other offenses, the Illinois State police said Thursday.

Police said they received reports of multiple crashes on I-57 northbound starting at 127th Street on Tuesday.

Police said Moutassim had driven his semi-truck "recklessly" on the highway northbound, causing a total of eight separate crashes.

After a crash near Halsted Street, Moutassim got out of the truck, pulled a driver a car, then beat and attempted to strangle the victim.

Police arrested Moutassim at the scene.

The victim was taken to an area hospital to be treated for injuries.

Moutassim was charged with felony attempted murder, as well as aggravated battery on a public way and aggravated battery-strangulation, police said.

He is being held to await a first court appearance, police said. They said no more information is being released.

"When it comes to aggressive driving, don’t lose your temper or your life," the state police said in a release. "If you are the victim of road rage or believe a driver is following or harassing you, call 911 and/or go to the nearest police department to report it."
