Work to resurface several borough roads is expected to get underway soon now that the borough has awarded a contract for the construction.

The borough had Back in March the borough engineer, Kenneth Job, met with the mayor and council regarding his recommendations as to which streets should be deemed priority as there is a growing list of roads that need improvements that equal about $1 million worth of work.

These streets were found to be of the most priority by the borough engineer as they had been on the list for five years and their present condition showed the most immediate need for resurfacing as waiting longer could require the roads to be entirely ripped up and rebuilt which would be more costly.

Borough officials had explained that the road resurfacing program had been somewhat on hold the past years and the borough is now trying to resurface as many as costs allow in order to keep them from needing to be rebuilt completely in the future.

The borough is also waiting for the county to provide road resurfacing for the Boulevard, a project which officials say was promised two years ago. Job stated during the most recent work session that the county is currently reconstructing every handicap ramp to comply with the state’s zero tolerance policy towards American Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance for these ramps and this may possibly delay the road resurfacing of the Boulevard.

However he stated that the borough has not been informed of a delay at this time and he believes that because Hasbrouck Heights is high on the county’s list to get this work done it would likely not be delayed much longer than next spring if at all.
