Child’s Eye Injury Spurs Arrest Of Hasbrouck Heights Man: Prosecutor

Bergen County authorities have charged a Hasbrouck Heights man with endangering the welfare of a four-year-old boy.

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, NJ — Bergen County authorities have charged a Hasbrouck Heights man with endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated assault in connection with a four-year-old boy’s “severe” eye injury.

On Saturday, officers arrested Mahedi Khan, 24, of Hasbrouck Heights, after conducting an investigation into the case of a four-year-old male child who was recently brought to Hackensack University Medical Center with a severe eye injury, according to a joint news release from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the Hasbrouck Heights Police Department.

Authorities charged Khan with endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. His bail was set at $145,000 with no 10 percent option.

As conditions of bail, Khan was ordered to avoid contact with the victim or victim's family and must surrender his passport. He is scheduled to appear in Bergen County Central Judicial Processing Court for a first appearance on Nov. 23.
