Lady Aviators Team Up With Zumba and Comedy Events

The Hasbrouck Heights girls softball team knows the definition of teamwork. On the field they always come together to play their best. Off field that team work continues as the girls their coach and their families have all come together to set up two fundraisers - a Zumba Night and a comedy night - to benefit the team.

The fundraisers are in support of both the junior varsity and varsity teams. Coach Jackie Ferranti says the main goal is to raise funds towards a new top-of-the-line pitching machine which will aid them in practice.

Ferranti said they were looking to do something different in the way of fundraising aside from doing on a car wash.

Team moms Rose Pagan and Marybeth Sikes, who are organizing both events, came up with the idea of Zumba night. The event takes place next Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m. in the new gym at the . For cost of $10 participants can support the softball teams by moving and shaking Zumba-style.

Friday, May 11 will be comedy night at on Route 17 South in Hasbrouck Heights. Ferranti said a fellow coach recommended the idea, saying it went over very well. The featured entertainer that night will be comedian Joseph Anthony. Tickets for the event cost $25 each.

This is the first time the teams have done any type of fundraising like this and they hope to make it a regular thing, said Ferranti.
