DPW Readies New Garbage Truck for Service

New vehicle replaces one which was 33 years old sold at auction last year.

In just a few weeks the will put its brand new garbage truck to use.

Bill Spindler, DPW superintendent, invited borough officials to the yard on Monday afternoon to see the brand new vehicle which was just recently delivered.  All it needs now is to have the department lettering put on it and have it registered with the state to haul trash, Spindler said.

The brand new 2013 garbage truck replaces one in the fleet that was 33 -years and deemed no longer fit for use. Spindler said theold truck taken out of service last year and sold at auction.

The new truck is the newest in the fleet of three which regularly are used to collect sanitation, solid waste and recycling. Spindler says the department also has three other garbage trucks, which are not dependable enough for every day use, on hand to be used for leaf removal.

DPW mechanic Steve Daus maintains older vehicles to keep in the service. He is currently in the process of cutting out the rotted floor of a nine-year old vehicle and welding on new steel to keep it in working condition.

The toward the purchase of the truck.

The final cost was $193,863 according to the borough's chief financial officer and borough administrator, Mike Kronyak.
