Hotel Plans Tied To Ottawa Avenue Flood Fix
Officials discuss what can be done to alleviate long time problem as proposed hotel project is in early planning.

Officials want to see to it that a flooding problem at Ottawa Avenue near Route 17 will be rectified as a result of future construction of a hotel.
Discussion took place last week among officials about the flooding, which Mayor Rose Heck said has been a long time problem. The mayor suggested a committee be formed that can provide input to the borough possible fixes.
Job suggested that when the site plan is ready to be heard by the Planning Board, that his office be allowed to review the drainage plans of offsite improvements. His office can provide a regional perspective and work with the developer, he said.

The goal is to get the water out of the area, Job said. He added that DEP permits would likely be needed as water would likely be drained to thearea’s riser ditch.
According to Dorothy Bernice of the Building Department, at this point the developer has just presented an overview of what is planned would like to work to eliminate the flooding problem in the parking lot at the location.

No site plan has been submitted yet for approval. The hotel is proposed for the north side of Ottawa Avenue on the west side of Route 17 where a former office building currently stands, Bernice explained.
