Growing List of Roads Considered in 'Desperate Need' of Resurfacing
Officials will determine which roads are top priority so next phase of resurfacing can begin.
Borough officials will need to determine which roads are on top of the list to be resurfaced so that work can begin soon.
Borough Engineer Kenneth Job told officials this week that the majority of roads listed on the growing list are in "desperate need" of repaving. The more time that lapses could lead the borough to having to rebuild a number of roads which could cost four times as much. The overall list of roads in need totals about $2.5 million worth of work which is beyond the borough’s budget for this work, according to Job.
Last month, Job told the mayor and council Resident Salvatore Altamura asked the mayor and council once again this week when Walter Avenue will be repaved claiming that the road looks like “a war zone with bumps and holes.” DPW Superintendent Bill Spindler said Walter is at the top of the list and if all are agreement it should be repaved this year.

Mayor Rose Heck said she will meet with Spindler and Councilman David Gonzalez, commissioner of streets and sanitation, to determine which roads will be done next.

Discussion Tuesday also included Coolidge Avenue which is beyond the point of being resurfaced and will need to be completely rebuilt. Mayor Rose Heck said it is long overdue. Last year the borough removed seven trees from the roadway that were growing into the road and curb but more needs to be done, Job said.
As previously reported, the borough was planning to get but the monies never materialized leaving the borough back to considering other options.
The borough is also on a waiting list to have the county repave the Boulevard, a project which officials have said was promised years ago. Job said the county has yet to release its schedule for when the work will be done. New ADA compliant barrier-free curb ramp requirements have made the project more costly and time consuming for the county, Job said, which is why the project has been delayed.
