Heights Little League Hosts Pitch, Hit and Run Competition Sunday

Boys and girls will compete separately and in different age groups.

The Hasbrouck Heights Little League will host a Pitch, Hit and Run Competition  Sunday, May 1 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Registration will begin at 12:30 p.m. and is open to all little league players and Heights residents that meet the age requirements.

Children must be at age as of July 17. Competition will be done in four age groups – 7/8 at 1:30 p.m. at the minor field; 9/10 at 2:30 p.m. at the minor field; 11/12 at 3:30 p.m. at the minor field and 13/14 from 1 to 3 at Babe Ruth Field. Boys and girls will compete separately.

The PITCH portion of the program will test how accurately a competitor can throw strikes to a designated "Strike Zone" target from a designated distance (35 feet for the girls softball division and 45 feet for the boys baseball division). Any method of underhand/overhand accepted. An attempt hitting ANY portion of the target will be deemed a strike.

The HIT portion of the program will test a competitor's ability to hit from a stationary batting tee, along a tape measure from home plate, toward straight-away centerfield. Hits will be measured for distance and accuracy.

The RUN portion of the program will measure a competitor's speed in a sprint from the start line, touching third base, and across home plate. Participants in the boys baseball division run a total of 160 feet, whereas those in the girls softball division run a total of 120 feet.

The first place winner will advance in each age and gender group: All-Around Champion, Pitching Champion, Hitting Champion and Running Champion. Players may advance through four levels of competition – Locals (HHLL), sectionals, team championships and national finals. The top participants complete in the PHR National Finals which is hosted annually in conjunction with MLB All-Star Week. This year’s All-Star game and National Finals will be in the Arizona Diamondbacks Stadium – Chase Field.
