Holiday Garbage Pick-Up Exception Made for Zone 2 on Election Day

Officials agree pick-up must be conducted on one of two holidays week of Nov. 7

Borough officials agreed to make an exception for garbage pick-up for Zone 2 on Election Day next month so that the zone will have collection that week.

Both Election Day and Veterans Day happen to fall on the zone’s two collection days that week, Tuesday and Friday, and no garbage collection for an entire week would be a potential health hazard, DPW Superintendent Bill Spindler said Tuesday night at the work session meeting.

Fourteen holidays have been cut from the garbage collection schedule this year as an effort to reduce costs. Spindler asked the mayor and council if it would be possible for the DPW to be granted permission to pick up on one of the holidays for Zone 2. Borough officials unanimously agreed.

Spindler suggested that the beginning of the week is the heavier of the two days garbage is collected as most people put out garbage from the weekend on Tuesday therefore it was decided that the DPW would collect on the Election Day holiday, Nov. 8.

Zone 2 includes the area of Lincoln Avenue up to Franklin and all streets east of Terrace Avenue, Spindler explained.
