Homes Around Teterboro Airport Could Be Soundproofed Using Federal Funds, Report Says

Houses, apartments, office buildings, and other workplaces within 65-decibel range would qualify for aid.

Residents and business owners could qualify for help soundproofing their homes and properties after a new noise level map around Teterboro airport is developed, NJ.com reported.

Houses, apartments, office building, and other workplaces in areas with a noise level of at least 65 decibels due to airport operations would be eligible for soundproof aid, said Norm Dotti, a member of the New Jersey Noise Control Council, which is participating the noise mapping process, according to the report.

Sixty-five decibels is the level at which sleep and other routine activities are handicapped, the Federal Aviation Administration has said.

Since 1983, nearly $400 million in federal and Port Authority funds have been committed to soundproofing 77 schools in communities surrounding Port Authority airports, including Teterboro.
