Inaugural Swim Team Honored for Achievements
High school swim team and coaches recognized by administrators and board of education

High school swimming team Coach Tom Romano said the team’s unofficial motto was “making history” and that’s exactly what the team did in its inaugural season.
High school administrators joined the Board of Education Wednesday night to present their appreciation to the team members and their coaches – the first-ever swimming team in this high school’s history.
Romano said the team did well in its first year. For a new team, it finished third in the league championship, finished eighth in the county championship and sent one swimmer to a state championship, he told the audience.

The following swim team members were recognized: Raquel Cannarozzi, Amanda Cano, Darien Cheng, Sean Connell, Alexis Diaz, Tina Messery, Kelly Moran, Alyssa Prush, Kim Sembrano, Gabriella Tucci and Rebecca Weber.

Romano and assistant coach Emily Haase were both presented with plaques from Catherine Cassidy, interim assistant principal of the high school.
“I’ve been a Hasbrouck Heights resident for along time. I just want to thank everyone involved for getting this team up and running. Hopefully we’ll be around for a long time,” said Coach Romano.
