Independents File Candidacy, Primary Election Results Are In

Two independent candidates seek the mayoral seat, one seeks the council.

Although there was no contest on either Democrat or Republican slates for municipal offices in the Tuesday primary election, there will now be an additional slate of candidates running for office as three Independents filed candidacy  on Tuesday.

Borough Clerk Rose Sees confirmed that Carol Skiba will run for council while Chris Semenecz and Dragan Blanusa will run for mayor on different Independent tickets.

In the Tuesday primary election, Republican incumbents Mayor Rose Heck, Councilman Justin DiPisa and Councilwoman Pamela Link, received 204, 213 and 211 votes respectively.

Democrat challenger Catherine Ellison for mayor received 89 votes, and council candidates Mary K. Blanusa and Doris Tousto received 91 and 86 votes respectively.  The vote totals include absentee ballots.

Mayor Heck seeks her second consecutive term. She was the first woman elected to the council in the borough's history serving one term on the council and two terms of mayor in the 1990s. She also served in the state assembly for 13 years.  DiPisa seeks his sixth term on the council and Link is running for her second term. Both Skiba and Semenecz have previously served on the council.
