Law Would Reduce Hasbrouck Heights Police Chief's Say In Promotions

The change would mean the chief's say for who receive promotions would only be 10 percent of the deciding process instead of 50 percent.

HASBROUCK HEIGHTS, N.J. — The police chief's say on what officers receive promotions under a new ordinance introduced by the borough council last month.

The ordinance, which was introduced Nov. 29, amends and decreases the chief's input in the promotion process and places more of an emphasis on oral exams.

Former Mayor Rose Heck criticized the changes, saying that Mayor Jack DeLorenzo was "interfering" in police department decisions, NorthJersey.com reported.
