Steven Schwartz, 53, of Hasbrouck Heights was charged with making terroristic threats.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Hasbrouck Heights man is accused of making death threats to a student at Northern Highlands Regional High School Tuesday.

Steven Schwartz, 53, was arrested after Allendale police officers investigated a threat that was made to a student while he was leaving the school parking lot, said Chief George Scherb.

The student was in a vehicle stopped in the parking lot and noticed that a white Nissan entered the lot and stopped next to another vehicle in front of his, Scherb said.

The student overheard the driver in the Nissan yell out of a window to the driver stopped in front of him. That driver then looked at the student and "made a weapons gesture with this hands and said, "I will kill everyone," Scherb said.

Police identified Schwartz as the man who made the threat and found him at his home, the chief said.

The Hasbrouck Heights Police Department and the Bergen County Sheriff's Office assisted with the investigation.
