Maru Japanese Restaurant Opens Its Doors on the Boulevard

Hasbrouck Heights is now home to a sushi restaurant

Hasbrouck Heights now has its very own Sushi restaurant. Last month Maru Japanese and Sushi restaurant celebrated a grand opening at the Boulevard location most recently formerly occupied by The Spot.

Although Heights is already home to Japanese Hibachi restaurant on Route 17, the Boulevard neighborhood had yet to have an informal sushi establishment. Some would say that residents and local employees likely craved the convenience of a casual eat in, take out, or delivery restaurant.

The family owned Maru features a full sushi and Japanese menu. In addition to classic sushi, sashimi, and rolls, Maru offers a large selection of noodles, stews, udon, tempura and teriyaki. Luckily the chef does not stray far from the classic preparations Americans have grown to love.

The chirashi was a traditional mix of salmon, tuna, mackerel, shrimp, salmon roe, and tamagoyaki over a bed of rice. The fish was fresh and expertly cut. The udon was outstanding and loaded with fresh vegetables. Their vast selection of classic boxes make an excellent choice of lunch.

Although a bit pricier than other favorite sushi locations in the area, Maru makes up for it in ambiance.  Much like , the Thai restaurant that opened on Boulevard back in January, Maru has taken the time to create a very inviting dining room and sushi bar.

Owner Gina Lee said that business has been good and that customers have been excited to have a Japanese restaurant in town. A large percentage of their business comes from take out, and they do offer free delivery for orders of $20.
